What is plywood?
Plywood is a versatile material that is used all over the world. Basically, it is thin layers of wood veneer that are glued together. It is a created, engineered kind of wood, which means that plywood is not a kind of tree. Of course, as all wooden material, plywood is originally created from trees. So what kind of trees usually becomes plywood? Well, the most common ones are pinewood and fir. However, there are loads of different types of plywood and which one to pick depends on what you want to do with it.

Softwood plywood is typically used for construction and industrial purposes. Hardwood plywood is known for its great resistance, which make it extra suited for heavy-duty wall and floor structures. Tropical plywood is created out of a mix of tropical wood, originally from the Asian region. It is often used because of its low cost compared to other similar solutions. There is also something called aircraft plywood – which is a high-strength solution. This wood was used in lots of World War 2 fighter aircrafts. Another popular type is the decorative plywood, which is usually faced with hardwood including ash, oak, maple and mahogany as well as a huge number of hardwoods.

As we have discovered – plywood has a huge range of usage within most industries. It is of course used as a building material. Some of the most common usage areas when it comes to building materials are:

– to make light partition or external walls
– to make formwork or a mould for wet concrete
– to make furniture: especially kitchen cabinets, office tables and boxes
– as part of flooring systems
– for packaging
– to make light doors and shutters

Another very popular usage of plywood is to create boxes and it is easy to understand why. Plywood boxes are easy to assemble, they have good stacking capability and they are suitable for expensive, sensitive and heavy items. The strongest benefits of plywood boxes and crates, apart from the above, is that they are customizable, they are safe for builders, they are delivered collapsed so they are easy to stack and store. These kinds of boxes also have tabs and slots integrated locking systems facilities for packing and unpacking and they are ideal for everything from light to heave, sensitive and high-value products! Plywood boxes are also even certified for handling dangerous items and goods. Lastly, they meet international export standards – so you can ship them anywhere you want!
